Candy Puffs Beanie

This is a wonderful little hat with lots of stretch.  It is both quick and easy to work up.  It requires Caron Simply Soft and a size M 9.0mm hook. I have included a video of how to complete the crossed cluster stitch.  Also I am going to be adding the flower patterns shown in the pictures.  Sorry it took so long.

Here is a video to help with the stitches.  You should probably mute your speakers....

  9. i am having difficulty figuring out how to cluster stitch into the previously skipped stitch. Im not sure if i am doing it right. can you possibly post a video of how this is done?

    ReplyDelete
  10. I can't right now, but I can later.

When you make the stitch it will look kind of like you are crocheting around the first cluster stitch.

  11. am i supposed to use two balls of yarn at one time?

    ReplyDelete
  12. You can use 2 balls or else pull from both ends of your skein.

  15. I just got done making this hat...it was so much fun!!! Thank you for posting this and your instructions were great. Now I can't wait for my daughter to wake up so I can show her her new hat. :)

    ReplyDelete
  16. This might be a dumb question, but how do you use two strands of yarn wen crocheting? Is there a way to just use a thicker yarn? Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  17. I either pull from both ends or else use two skeins. You can try using a bulky yarn. I'm not sure if it will look the same, but I am sure it would be pretty.

  18. Thank you so much for the pattern! Love the hat, and I really appreciate the instructions for all sizes! Do you have a pattern for the flower?

  19. I saw that you used Caron Simply Soft but I was wondering what the color was called that you used in the picture with two hats? The closest I could find on line was a "melon" color????

    2. This hat is super cute! I would love the flower patterns. Am I missing them somewhere? I've looked all over the blog. Also, I cannot seem to find that hot pink color you used for the flower on the off white hat as I've searched through all the caron yarn colors online. Did you use a different yarn? I'd like to know so I can match the yarn types so they are similar. Finally, the size for 2-8, I plan to make this for a 3-year old, is it going to be really loose? Do you have advice to make it snug for her? She's very active and I don't want such a cute hat falling off and getting lost at the park. Thanks so much for your help and for sharing a darling pattern, I've searched for hours. So glad to have found one.

  22. thank you so much for this awesome pattern. It came out perfect on my first try. I made one for my 4 month old little girl & I imagine the 6 yr old will want one when she sees it too lol.

  23. Would like to know if you have to use double strands of yarn and where is the pattern for the flower. The baby yarn came out lovely with the double strand thank you

    1. I used just one strand of yarn the first time I made it. It turned out well. It's just not as thick. Using 2 strands really is a nice touch.

  25. I just finished this hat. I think I've got the hang of the cluster stitches, but it seems that my hat is a LOT wider than yours. yours looks like a nice even width from the first row of clusters all through the last row. I counted, and there's the same number of clusters in each row...how did I get wider and wider? Any advice?

    1. Ok...so I hadn't watched your video until just now. I was NOT doing the cluster stitch correctly. I'll bet that's the problem somehow. I'll try another one.

    2. Ok Thanks. I have a question about the pattern. For Adult the increase ends at 36 but I don't want it slouchy. Isn't this going to make it too small for a small adult? Any suggestions are helpful. Thanks Jennifer

  33. I love this pattern! I made it for all of my coworkers in different colors and they raved about them! I used the same stitch to make scarfs ;) Merry Christmas & Happy Crocheting!

  34. I saw this question but not an answer to it: if I've got an L hook (i've also got an N hook, but not an M hook:)) will that work??

    1. Either one should work. You will probably have to adjust the pattern to make sure it works for the size you want.

  35. For some reason mine starts to flare out when i start to do the sc, am I doing something wrong? I've watched the video and I think i'm doing it right...

  36. The biggest hook I have is a I/9 5.50MM. I was trying to do the 12 month size but it looked like a preemie hat. What should I do to make it bigger?

    ReplyDelete
  37. I was wondering the same thing...my hat flares out at the bottom where the sc go. What did I do incorrectly?

    1. I don't think you did anything incorrectly. You may have a slightly different tension than me.

  41. Just made this hat! Super cute and easy. This is only the second hat I've ever made, so if I can do it, anyone can. Thank you for the fantastic pattern. The stitch count at the end of each row really helped me keep my seam straight. Now I just need the flowers to finish it off. Pretty please post those patterns too! :)
